More on the electoral roll

Do I qualify for the roll?

To apply for the electoral roll you must meet the following conditions:

  • You must be aged 16 or over
  • You must be baptised
  • You must either live in the parish or have attended St Alban's (or one of the churches in the Furzedown Team Ministry*) for at least 6 months. *You can only be on ONE electoral roll.

Joining the electoral roll is an important statement of witness and a step along the path of commitment. With your name on the electoral roll, the true strength of the church can be seen in the local area and across the diocese.

  • HOW DO I KNOW IF I AM ALREADY ON THE ELCTORAL ROLL? Please check with the church office (02087695414, streathampark@gmail.com)
  • HOW DO I KNOW IF I LIVE IN THE PARISH? Check the St Alban's parish map here
  • HOW CAN I BE BAPTISED? Further information can be found here.

Do I have to join?

You can be a full and active member of St Alban's without joining the electoral roll. Being on the electoral roll does not mean signing up to any additional commitments, but it does help the church show its true strength in numbers. Representation on the governing bodies of the church (deanery synod in particular) depends on the number on the electoral roll.

Joining the electoral roll is compulsory if you wish to stand for election to the PCC or other church body (eg Deanery, Diocesan or General Synods).

Being on the electoral roll does NOT make you a 'member' of the church; simply choosing to make St Alban's your spiritual home does that.

If I am already a member of St Alban's why should I bother to be on the electoral roll?

Joining the electoral roll is an important statement of witness and a step along the path of commitment. With your name on the electoral roll, the true strength of the church can be seen in the local area and across the diocese.

What else does the electoral roll affect?

The size of the roll affects the maximum number of PCC members. If the roll isn't representative, this means that the PCC is too small for the workload involved, putting heavy strain on PCC members.

If you think of yourself as a member of St Alban's, please do consider going on the electoral roll.
